Turn it Up

Chris really earned his 'daddy wings' tonight. I was feeling stir crazy (I hear there is this thing called the outside?) so Chris took over baby duty while I went grocery shopping. (Who knew that I would love shopping so much?) Anyway, at about 7:30 both kids decided that they were hungry - NOW! He made it out alive. I bought him chocolate. :)

On that note, Ethan is getting louder. He has most definitely turned it up a notch with his maximum volume. I remember when Alli went through this. It was like every few days she would get louder and louder as I assume her lungs got bigger and bigger. Ethan still has no chance at a screaming contest, but he's gaining.

We had a doctors appointment last Monday with some good changes. For one, Ethan is down to 1/2 liter (from 3/4) per minute on his oxygen. He's doing very well and staying well saturated. That's a step in the right direction. His steroid has also been decreased, another good step. Actually tonight on the phone the doc said to start with every other day steroids. An excellent step in the right direction. By the way, Ethan's co2 was 61 on Monday. So exciting.

The only bad news at the appt was his weight. He was down 6 oz from the previous Monday. Not good news. He had those couple of days when he wasn't interested in eating at all, and a few days on straight breast milk (no added calories). It wasn't a good thing. We ended up going with a trial period on straight Alimentum formula to rule out sensitivity to milk/soy/wheat etc. The Alimentum is a cow's milk formula, but the proteins are broken down so that an allergic person could drink it with no problem. I voted for this test because there is no way that I would be able to eliminate all of that from my diet and still function with two babies. Yikes. So, he didn't show any changes at all on the formula, except that he was a bit more irritable in general. I am satisfied, and so is Dr. Nau, that the milk etc in my diet are not causing problems. Yeah! We came to the conclusion looking back that it doesn't seem to matter one way or the other what he is eating. He has pretty much the same results all around. Now at least Ethan gets his mommy's milk back. Yippee!
