They say that good things sometimes come early, as Lisa and I both learned firsthand this week. We had a routine doctor’s appointment for the twins on Thursday morning (July 10th) when early on in the ultrasound we noticed that Baby B’s heart rate was dangerously low. After a quick two-block drive to St. Luke’s for more tests and monitoring. By 3pm we realized that a semi-emergency C-section was necessary to keep them alive.
At 3:31 p.m., our daughter, Allison Grace came into the world at 4 lbs., 10 oz., 17.5 inches long, letting everyone see her bleach-blonde spiky hair and her beautiful blue eyes.
At 3:33 p.m., our son, Ethan Christopher, was born weighing 2 lbs., 14 oz. and measuring 16.25 inches long, giving the most beautiful cry we could’ve heard.
Both children are in the NICU unit and have stabilized and are doing as well as expected for being 32 weeks along. They are both on ventilators to help with breathing, and they respond well to our touch. They will stay here until they become strong with breathing and eating.
Lisa is recovering well from the surgery, and the people here at St. Luke’s have taken very good care of all of us. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers.
