Ethan's keeping us on our toes...

I will forever be amazed at how snow days have fallen exactly when I've needed them during each of my five winters here in Iowa. Thursday was no different; several of our "resident meteorologists" at school had predicted there would be no school on Thursday the day before and, lo and behold, at 6:44 a.m. the call came in. (The funny part is that one of our "resident meteorologists" on staff actually was one in a former life...)

I was getting ready to head downstairs when Lisa ran up the stairs to tell me that Ethan's g-tube button had fallen out. What?? Thankfully, the only person not in anxiety mode was Ethan himself, as he busied himself with his books in front of the bookcase as he does every morning (he's got to read the paper too, it seems).

Lisa called the doctor's office, who obviously thought it was necessary for Ethan to come in, and so she took Ethan in while Allison and I hung out at the house. After a little while, all was well, and Lisa even said that Ethan wanted to hug Dr. Nau. (Awwww....)

On a side note, it was definitely a change of pace to just have Allison under foot with Lisa and Ethan gone. It's always an adjustment to know that I just have to keep track of one child. She is growing so fast, and walks really well now. It was really delightful to see her lost in play, going about her world with no hesitation, no pretense whatsoever.

With Ethan all put together with a new button, he's been doing a couple of new things:

1. He is starting to scoot forward on the floor, instead of pushing himself backwards which is excellent. He can't go very far, but he really wants to, so it's only a matter of time now.

2. He can point to where his head and his tummy are, and now we're working on pointing to his leg.

3. When he wants to be picked up, he'll shoot both fists up into the air like he won the 100 meters...he'll also point to where he wants to go if you're holding him with those same fists.
