Off the vent
Ethan is off the vent! His co2 this morning was 62. Amazing considering the previous one was over 100. This afternoon I was alone with Ethan. I had my back turned but heard several HUGE coughs. For those if you not familiar with intubation there shouldn't really be any sounds coming from him. Sure enough he had extubated himself, even though his hands we swaddled down. We think our little houdini coughed his tube right out! As soon as he was stabilized with some oxygen I looked down and he was smiling under the little mask! He proceeded to smile at everyone and play with the oxygen mask while the respitory therapists set up vapotherm & heliox for him. Ethan was clearly yelling us he was done with that darn jet vent, because he gas 2 hrs post extubation was 67. Wahoo! I was really starting to get worried that it would never come down. 67 is pretty typical for Ethan. Maybe a touch high, but not too bad. Whew. Thank you for all of your prayers and positive thoughts.
