Dr. Dagle called Ethan a "Magic Baby" today. Ethan came back from his bronchoscopy and he passed with flying colors! The ENT doctors said that he has NO More stenosis or narrowing in his upper airways! That is wonderful news. They want to see him for follow up every month or so after discharge, just in case. No problem, I can do that! Dagle said he had never seen that much granulation and swelling disappear so quickly.
I am so amazed. I wasn't expecting him to get such a great report. Amazing. So, now he is just dealing with garden variety lung disease or Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia (BPD). He will still likely come home on oxygen for a little while. After all that we have been threatened with, home oxygen sounds like a walk in the park.
So, the plan is to transfer him back to St Luke's in Cedar Rapids on Monday. It has been recommended that I call at 9:01 Monday morning to make sure the ball is rolling. Big institution, lots of red tape. Yadda yadda. It will be so nice to have him closer to home. We estimate that we lose at least 2 hours with him because of the drive. Not to mention the money we will save on gas and parking. Perhaps we'll get to eat dinner at our own house once in a while too!
Oh, and they are also going to try to turn down his cpap to 6. That is excellent! Hopefully he tolerates it. Now he just needs to get off cpap to oxygen cannula. Then he can learn to eat and come home! Maybe Nordine's estimation of Thanksgiving wasn't such a bad one after all??
Sweet!
