Where do I start? Ethan had a busy day growing up. At 9 am they took him off of the Vapotherm and gave him only oxygen through a nasal cannula. He's on 1 liter of flow (at 100% oxygen, just like he'll have at home). He did amazingly well with it and did not work any harder to breathe. They left the Vapotherm running at his bedside for most of the day, just in case (because it takes forever to set up). It left the room while we were still there. Perhaps tomorrow we'll go for a walk around the floor in the wagon!
The other big news is that Ethan did a super job breastfeeding! He latched right on the first time (no shield either!! Yeah!) and went to town. It's was like he'd been nursing all along. And of course he loved it.
One thing we're both starting to remember was how fast Allison came home; one minute, she was learning to eat, and then, before we could spell Aquaphilic, she was riding home with us in the van. Ethan 'seems' to be following that same trend. In just over a week, he's made such tremendous strides that Lisa and I (yep, I took over this entry,) are struggling to wrap our minds around his progress...and what we've got to do to get ready for the little guy. If he comes home tomorrow, he's sleeping on the couch in the basement! (Actually, we have a co-sleeper in our room that we'll use in the beginning weeks.)
We're working out where the oxygen tanks will go, what treatments he'll need and when he'll need them, and we've just spent the better part of tonight looking at cribs. Tomorrow we'll break it to the cat that there will indeed be another pink screaming thing to annoy her in the (now) not-too-distant future.
