Catching up

Ok, it's been a few days. Don't worry, nothing bad is happening. :) Here's a little catching up.

12/19/08
Ethan had a good day. His co2 was back down to 77 (or something like that) from the 95 the day before. He gained just a little weight, but not too much.

I got an early 6:30 am call that Ethan had been fussy and throwing up. So I rolled out of bed and went to the hospital (so much for stocking up on sleep before he comes home!) We thought maybe he had a virus or something. Dreams of home were vanishing in my head. As it turns out, the poor little guy was constipated. So, he got his first taste of juice. He sucked down 5 cc of prune juice, and a couple of hours later it had done its job. There I go again, talking about poo. Sorry to those of you who are not moms. Unfortunately nursing didn’t go so well today. He was really fussy with the constipation issue and he ended up only getting 5 minutes.

Today Ethan had 15 minutes of nursing, so that was better. He still was a bit fussy at feedings, so I really hope this constipation issue gets resolved soon. Other than that, Ethan had a great day. He’s still on 1 liter of O2 and needing only about 60%. He’s doing a great job.  We have a CPR video to watch in preparation for the big departure. The goal is home on Christmas day – but as you all know by now, things can change quickly nicu. I won’t believe it until I have discharge papers in my hand. We do, however, have lots of little loose ends to tie up along the way like getting home oxygen, home monitor training, and things like that. It’s going to be a very busy Christmas!

And for you warm weather friends, did I mention that the high today was -3? Low of -12. This morning they said the wind chill was -35!!!! This is insane. Oh yes, and we had a blizzard warning last night through 6pm today. Baby it’s COLD outside!
