9.20.08

Dr. Rosenblum is on for this weekend, and we had a good conversation about where we're at with Ethan. Ethan's Co2 is not dissipating as well as we would like, so today we switched from the Jet ventilator back to the Oscillating ventilator, one of the original vents he was on in July.

The thinking is that since Ethan is dealing with two issues, rising carbon dioxide levels and the secretions he has from the pneumonia, that the oscillator will do a better job of combating both at the same time. Normally, if a preemie just has high Co2 levels, you use the Jet vent, but if your preemie has high Co2 and pneumonia, than you might want to try the oscillator.

Ethan took the transfer of machines well, and is resting deeply right now. Lisa and I will go back in tonight to see him and figure out where to go next. We've got laundry to fold (4 baskets worth) and a hay field to mow!
