Dr. Barden called a special meeting of all of the doctors to discuss Ethan's plan of care. Maybe when they put all of their heads together all at one time they will come up with something good. :)
Dr. Nordine talked with me today about his thoughts. He consulted again with his old colleagues where he trained in Minnesota
. He, and they, think we're still on the right path and are considering another round of stronger steroids. (The good news is that all of the scary side effects aren't scary any more since he is 'term'). He did talk about the possibility of referring Ethan to a tertiary care center where they can do further testing for other obscure causes for his continued lung problems. But, at this point his colleagues agree that it isn't necessary. Considering all that has happened to him (starting really small - probably with underdeveloped lungs, pulmonary hemorrhage, PDA ligation, pneumonia) they believe it's reasonable for him to still be sick. I am willing to believe that this is true. We'll see what they come up with tomorrow. I really do trust these doctors. I also appreciate that they are willing to consider referral if needed.
We've been there so long that I now get hugs from them, and I've seen pictures of their children. I believe that they really do care about Ethan and want to see him get better.
